Time to get Serious

I've started the New Year with a renewed vigour and focus to start getting fit.

Somewhat disturbed by the news that top athlete, and extremely fit, Martina Navratilova had to be stretchered off the mountain after reaching 4500m during a charity trek event with some other athletes, requiring hospital treatment, I've decided that I need to be not only as fit as I can possibly be (for a 40 something lay-about), but also need to take the altitude thing very seriously.

So starting today, I jumped off my tube train 1 mile from where I needed to be, and ended up walking 4.25 miles all told today (thanks to my new FitBit pedometer)

I've also booked in for a consultation at the Altitude Centre in London to see how susceptible I might be to AMS.

More news Tuesday....
